PARSHAS VAYEITZEI
Gevuros Shlomo

(28:15) And behold, I am with you, and I will guard you wherever you go.

Behold, Chazal asked that since the Shechinah (the Divine Presence) does not dwell outside of Eretz Yisrael, how was Yechezkel able to prophesize there? They answered that since he had already experienced prophecy in Eretz Yisrael before he was exiled, the Shechinah was able to dwell upon him also in Bavel.

Here too we can similarly ask about Hashem’s statement to Ya’akov “and I will guard you wherever you go”, which implies even outside Eretz Yisrael. But surely the Shechinah does not dwell there! But for this reason Hashem said initially “behold, I am with you” -– I am with you now in Eretz Yisrael, and because of this “I will guard you wherever you go” – I will be able to guard you on your journeys even when you travel outside Eretz Yisrael.
